Grilled Garlic Steak
Flank steak can be a less expensive alternative to sirloin. For a more tender result, marinate the flank steak in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 hours before grilling it.
4 sirloin steaks
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 Tbsp ground ginger
Hot pepper sauce
Trim excess fat from steaks. Score remaining fat from outer edge to, but not into, the meat.
Mix soy sauce, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sugar, ginger and hot sauce to taste in shallow dish. Add steak, turning to coat.
Marinate steak, covered, in refrigerator, turning occasionally. Drain and discard marinade. Preheat grill.
Grill steaks 4 inches above hot coals or broil 6 inches from heat source for 7 minutes. Turn steaks over. Grill or broil for 5 minutes longer or until done to taste.
Prepared crushed garlic, available in jars in most produce sections, can cut down on preparation time. If the weather does not permit outdoor grilling, try a ridged grill pan on the stove top or broil in the oven.
