Check out the dairy section of the supermarket for a selection of prepackaged pizza cheeses. They are generally lower priced than mozzarella cheese, and will also result in a great-tasting macaroni casserole.
1 lb ground beef
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
4 cup cooked macaroni
2 (8-ounce) cans tomato sauce
1/2 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
3 oz pepperoni, sliced
Preheat oven to 375°F. Cook the beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crumbly, about 5 minutes. Drain. Stir in oregano and basil.
Combine beef mixture and macaroni in a large casserole; mix well.
Combine tomato sauce, Cheddar and garlic salt in a small bowl; mix well. Pour over beef mixture.
Sprinkle mozzarella over tomato sauce mixture. Arrange pepperoni slices over cheese. Bake casserole until hot and bubbly, about 20 minutes.
Pizza Macaroni recipe tip: For a quick and easy way to drain the macaroni, cook it in a large strainer submerged in a pot of boiling water. Then, you can easily lift the basket and drain the water.
