Extra-Tender Chinese Steak
Servings: 6
Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Partner: broiled eggplant
Use a top round for this easy Chinese steak recipe. It is almost steak-tender but is lower in price than other cuts. Marinating tenderizes the meat, making it unnecessary to purchase a more expensive cut of beef.
Ingredients
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp cooking wine
1/2 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 lb flank or top loin steak
3 cup white rice
Directions
-
Combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, wine, sugar, oil and baking soda in a large bowl; mix well. Add steak. Let stand for 20 minutes.
-
Meanwhile, cook rice according to package directions. Fluff with a fork; cover to keep warm.
-
Preheat broiler. Remove steak from soy sauce mixture. Arrange on a broiler pan. Broil steak, turning once, until medium-rare, about 5 minutes.
-
Spoon rice on a serving platter. Arrange steak over rice.

Chinese Steak recipe tip: For easiest slicing and to retain the most tenderness, slice the steak thinly across the grain. Cook only until medium-rare.
