Eggs are cheaper by the dozen and are priced according to size. Since most recipes are written for large eggs, it is not necessary to spend additional grocery money on extra large or jumbo eggs.

Ingredients

1/4 cup sliced almonds

2 sticks of butter or margarine softened

2 cup sugar

1 cup cocoa powder

4 eggs

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 cup sugar

24 oz cream cheese, softened

5 eggs

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

  1. For chocolate batter, beat butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer set at medium speed until fluffy. Add cocoa powder and eggs; mix well. Add flour and vanilla; mix well.

  2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a medium baking pan. Spoon chocolate batter into pan.

  3. For vanilla batter, beat sugar and cream cheese in a large bowl with an electric mixer until smooth. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour and vanilla; mix well.

  4. Spoon vanilla batter over chocolate batter. Swirl with a knife for a marbled effect. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake until brownies test done, about 45 minutes.

Zebra Brownies recipe tip: To quickly soften cream cheese, remove it from the foil package and place it on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave, uncovered, on medium for 1 minute.
