1 (2-layer) package fudge brownie cake mix
1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 tsp almond extract
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
5 Tbsp butter or margarine
1/3 cup milk
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a medium baking dish. Combine cake mix, pie filling, extract and eggs in a large bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon until combined.
Spoon batter into prepared dish. Bake until edges pull away from sides of dish, about 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, mix sugar, butter and milk in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add chips; stir until frosting is smooth.
Spread frosting over warm layer. Cool before cutting into bars.
Chocolate Cherry Bars tip: Cooking sprays that combine oil and flour simplify greasing and flouring a baking dish.
