Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: none

Partner: iced tea

Buy bananas in bulk when they are on sale to save money on this Banana Chocolate Dessert. Ripen, then freeze, unpeeled, those you cannot use immediately. To defrost, run the banana under warm water for 1 to 2 minutes and peel as usual.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs

1/4 cup sugar

6 Tbsp butter or margarine, melted

3 bananas, sliced

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese

3 1/2 cup cold milk

2 (3.9-ounce) packages chocolate instant pudding mix

8 oz whipped topping

12 maraschino cherries

Directions

  1. Combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar and butter in a small bowl. Press mixture evenly over the bottom of a medium baking dish. Arrange bananas on crust.

  2. Beat cream cheese in a large bowl with an electric mixer until smooth, about 1 minute. Add 1/4 cup milk; beat well. Add remaining milk and pudding mix. Beat well for about 5 minutes.

  3. Drop spoonfuls of chocolate mixture on top of bananas in dish. Spread chocolate mixture evenly.

  4. Spread whipped topping over pudding mixture in dish. Garnish with maraschino cherries. Chill until serving time.

Banana Chocolate Dessert tip: If you're in a hurry, you can use a prepared crumb crust. Use only 3 bananas, 1 package cream cheese, 2 cups milk and 1 package pudding mix.
